Bio
Born Nwamaka Sam-Ejehu, MAKA is a singer and songwriter. She began as part of the children’s choir led by her mother at her church, where she rendered her first solo at age six. This love for singing blossomed into songwriting at age 12. She is influenced by a host of legendary soul and jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Sade Adu, Lauryn Hill, Pharell, Robin Thicke and Asa.
A Lawyer by profession, MAKA took the leap into music as an undergraduate of the University of Lagos, recording her first song ‘Angry’ for the DonJazzy Enigma Freestyle Competition. Since then, Maka's career has grown and has seen her writing songs for TV shows and movies. She is a regular performer at the annual Felabration concerts. She is also a freelance performer with her band, One Band Like That at music events both in her community and outside.
In 2016, she released her first project entitled The Truth, produced by acclaimed hiphop producer, Teckzilla. She went on to release a Sza Inspired EP, Ctrl+M in 2018 and in 2019, she released another LP entitled It's Not You; It's Me. An afro soul project on which she showed another part of herself.
Maka has shared stages with Nigerian greats like Tu Face, Asa, Simi and has worked with the legendary Nigerian rapper Modenine on a few singles.
Maka is a great performer and songwriter and only aspires to be greater and be an inspiration to her generation and beyond.
