Maya Spector is a vocalist and songwriter from South Africa.
Maya Spector specializes in jazz, soul, musical theatre, and cultural educational facilitation. Her artistic roots are derived from the wonderful worlds of jazz and soul music. A global citizen by heart, Maya is well-versed in the distinctive cultural attributes of communities and audiences from around the world, Maya’s parents remain both active and revered contributors to the political and cultural landscape of the globe.
Maya’s career spans from solo performances at the esteemed, Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. alongside the highly-respected television industry veteran and puppeteer, Jim Henson (The Muppets) and renowned actress and singer, Phylicia Rashad.
A graduate of the ‘University of KwaZulu-Natal’ as of 2009, where she majored in performance and music education. Maya has left an indelible mark in the worlds of musical theatre through powerful performances in multiple roles in classic musicals such as David Kramer's Langarm, Rent!, the ‘Silence of the Music’, ‘The Man of La Mancha’, ‘Jimbo, My Fair Lady’.
Spector‘s voice has been described as pure honey, with darkness and sweetness that tells her stories convincingly. Her artistic roots derive from the worlds of Jazz and Soul music. She graduated in 2009 from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, specialising in Jazz Performance and Music Education, and went on to write and record two albums since.
During the lockdown or 2020 she went on to furthering her studies through the prestigious Henley Business School Africa after being awarded a full scholarship to study a Post Graduate Diploma in Businesses Practice Management.
She continues to work as a solo and session musician in the global music scene spreading her talents across the board from classical to jazz as well as appearing in musical theatre. One thing is for certain, she states, "I don't live for music, I live because of it!"
