Sierra Leone: Emmerson releases 9 Lives
Sierra Leonean Afropop and R&B singer Emmerson on 10 August released an album titled 9 Lives.
The 18-track album is available for streaming and download on various music platforms. It features artists such as Kracktwist, Zamza, Drizilik, Star Zee, 2 Flames and Mr. One.
9 Lives is Emmerson’s first major release in two years and addresses a number of themes, which relate to the human experience. It features such songs as ‘Tell God Tenki’ and ‘Kokonat Ed’ – a bold 14-minute track, which narrates the status quo in the country.
“This album is about my experiences in the past two years, which have shaped me,” Emmerson said. “I’ve learned so much about myself and my environment, which shaped me to a point that it solidifies that message of love and peace, it’s a message that I will stand by forever.”
Emmerson said there was a need to build and empower local platforms to help boost the careers of home-grown talent. “I know we live in a country where we have lost hope, but I’m telling you we can do this. Let’s stop paying attention to other people.”
Emmerson, who is signed to Sugar Entertainment, launched his music career in 2002 following the release of the Bodyguard Compilation, Vol 1 mixtape. His studio albums include Borbor Belleh (2004), 2 Fut Arata (2007), Yesterday Betteh Pass Tiday (2010), Rise (2012), Kokobeh (2013), Home and Away (2014), and Survivor (2016).
