Cassper Nyovest wins big at Metro FM Awards
Rapper Cassper Nyovest reigned supreme at the 14th annual Metro FM Awards in Durban on Saturday 28 February, taking home five trophies. His debut album Tsholofelo was voted by fans as the Listeners’ Choice Artist of the Year award. Nyovest also bagged awards for Best Male Artist, Best Hip-Hop Album, Best Hit Single and Song of the Year (for ‘Doc Shebeleza').
The glitzy event took place at the Inkosi Albert Luthili International Convention Centre. It was hosted by Minnie Dlamini and Metro FM DJ Tbo Touch. The audience was treated to performances by the likes of Bucie, XoliM, Brian Temba, Moneoa, K.O and AKA, MaE and Ziyon, HHP and Tsa Mandebele’s Candy.
Soweto-based acapella trio The Soil picked up two awards: Best Group and Best Produced Album for Nostalgic Moments. Tshepo Tshola (of Sankomota) and The Mahotella Queens were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards, while radio DJ Eddie Zondi, who passed away last year, got a moving tribute when he was honoured with a Special Recognition Award.

- Best Compilation - Vinny da Vinci (Deep House Sounds Vol 10)
- Best Styled Artist - Donald (Black & White)
- Best Newcomer - Chymamusique (Gift of Sound)
- Best Kwaito Album - L’Vovo Derrango (The Boss)
- Best Remix - Duncan ft AKA, Professor, Mampitsha ('Tsiki Tsiki' Remix)
- Best Dance Album - Nastee nev (0808 Sweetsoul)
