Ghana DJ Awards to host workshop in November
The Ghana DJ Awards this week announced that it would host a workshop for DJs and their stakeholders at Creative Arts Council in Accra on 20 November.

The workshop will discuss such topics as how DJs can manage their funds, the importance of social media, sound management and brand positioning. The event will also include training sessions on how to operate as a DJ, select music, beat matching, and equalising music, as well as general education on sound and mood curation. Registration details for the workshop will be announced on Monday via Ghana DJ Awards’ Facebook and Instagram platforms. The workshop will start from 9am to 5pm (GMT).
Speaking to Music In Africa, Ghana DJ Awards CEO Merqury Quaye said the workshop would help advance the participant’s music standards.
“We have been organising a programme which seeks to motivate and inspire DJs who have been doing amazing work over the years," Quaye said. "However, what we haven’t done is to also impart knowledge into them. Unfortunately, there are no formal institutions that narrow in on the DJ profession, so this is an initiative which seeks help improve the DJ culture and industry.”
In September, Ghana DJ Awards unveiled its newly appointed 12-member board of directors. Earlier this month, the new board announced that DJs below 18 years of age would no longer be nominated in the Overall Best DJ of the Year category. Instead, they would compete for the Young DJ of the Year award. The board also introduced a new category for outstanding student DJs and an additional one for artists who have excelled during the COVID-19 lockdown period.
The annual awards ceremony, which is now in its eighth edition, is organised by event production company Merqury Republic. Nominations for this year's event are open until 23 October. Entries can be submitted here.
