Planet Afropunk announces more performers
Afropunk has announced the second batch of performers for its virtual edition from 23 to 25 October.
The musicians include Ugandan Nyege Nyege member and rapper MC Yallah, South African punk band TCYIF and Cape Verdean singer Mayra Andrade. The extended line-up also includes Common, Dua Saleh, Asiatica, Moonga K and Black Haüs, among others. They will perform alongside previously announced acts Ari Lennox, Tiwa Savage, Elaine, Moonchild Sanelly and Bongeziwe Mabandla.
This year’s edition will run under the name Planet Afropunk and will see the performances streamed from around the world, including the US (Atlanta and Los Angeles), Nigeria, South Africa, Botswana and the UK. Interested viewers should RSVP here.
The event will be co-hosted by South African actress and UN High Commissioner for Refugees ambassador Nomzamo Mbatha, Brazilian artist and entrepreneur Loo Nascimento, and American model and producer Jorge ‘Gitoo’ Wright.
Additionally, Larissa Luz will now be joined by fellow Brazilian Carlinhos Brown on percussion. The 10-piece Afro-Brazilian band Afrocidade will feature guest appearances from Majur and Mahal Pita, and ÀTTØØXXÁ’s set will also feature rapper Hiran.
Planet Afropunk also unveiled more guest speakers like musician and producer Robert Glasper as well as singer, songwriter and model Dawn Richard. Other speakers include activist Jesse Williams, comedian and actress Amanda Seales, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah correspondent Dulcé Sloan and multimedia journalist Ivie Anie. Also on the line-up is media personality Ashlee Marie Preston and activist Tamika Danielle Mallory.
Afropunk also invited all makers, traders and curators to apply to become a vendor at the online festival’s market. Vendors will be featured on the Afropunk website beginning one week before the festival and for at least one week after the festival. Interested vendors can apply here.
