Call for registrations: Songwriting masterclass for North Africans
Established and aspiring songwriters from Northern Africa can register for the Cookout Africa masterclass series by Grammy-nominated American singer-songwriter, composer and record producer Vincent Le Carl Berry II.
Now in its fifth iteration, the masterclass is a live collaborative songwriting experience that engages participants in creative writing, group function, reflection, peer learning, peer interaction and practice. It promotes teambuilding and collaboration to enable Africa’s creative industry of the future to continue producing fresh, conscious and emotionally available content, in a sustainable and cutting-edge manner.
Participants will benefit from a unique interactive and educational experience, which will see a song written in real time under the guidance of Vincent Berry II.
The session will be conducted primarily in English. However, language support in Arabic will be available.
Who can register?
Participants from the following countries are eligible to register:
- Algeria
- Egypt
- Libya
- Mauritania
- Morocco
- Sahrawi Republic
- Sudan
- Tunisia
How to participate
The masterclass will take place on 26 November at 6pm CAT. There are only 50 slots available, and interested songwriters can register here.
The masterclass series was launched on 30 July by the African Export-Import Bank in collaboration with the African Union as part of the second edition of the biennial Intra-African Trade Fair, which was set to take place in September in Kigali, Rwanda, but was postponed to next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
