
Open call: Fête de la Musique Joburg 2025
The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) is inviting artists to submit applications for the 14th edition of Fête de la Musique at Victoria Yards in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This year’s festival, also known as World Music Day, is designed to commemorates the 50th anniversary of UNESCO’s International Music Day. Additionally, 2025 marks 30 years of IFAS in South Africa, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to fostering artistic and cultural exchange.
The call is intended for musicians, bands, DJs, and poets to apply for the opportunity to perform at the free music festival. The festival offers a platform for emerging and established artists to showcase their talent, connect with audiences, and be part of an international celebration of music and creativity.

How to apply:
- Application period: 13 March – 16 April 2025, or until 300 applications are received.
- Artists should complete an online application form here(link is external).
- Submit a WeTransfer file with required materials (bio, photos, press kit, sound clips, and videos) via email at fetedelamusiquejoburg@gmail.com(link sends e-mail).
Selection process
Due to the high volume of applications, no auditions will be held. A panel of industry professionals will review submissions and select artists based on originality, musical quality, and stage presence.
Requirements
- Artists must be available to perform live in Johannesburg on 21 June 2025.
- Artists must be able to deliver a 45-minute set with strong audience engagement.
- Artists must attend compulsory professional workshops in Johannesburg on 19 and 20 June 2025.
Performance fees
- Music bands: R5 500 (about $300)
- DJs: R3 000
- Poets: R1 000
