Titled amaXesha Wethu - The After Tour Movie, the documentary captures not only his performances, but also the intimate and human moments that define life on the road.
Filmed across various cities during his return to South Africa after touring Europe, the documentary provides an unfiltered glimpse into the physical and emotional highs and lows of tour life.
Reflecting on the project, Mabandla said there had initially been no plan to create a full-length film. “We knew we were about to do something special,” Mabandla said. “Initially, there wasn’t a plan to create a full documentary. But after seeing the footage, we realised we had captured something worth sharing.”
The film goes beyond the stage, showcasing the exhaustion, vulnerability, camaraderie between bandmates, and the deep emotional connection with audiences.
Mabandla emphasised the significance of performing for South African audiences, adding that his music is deeply rooted in the country’s culture. “My music is specific to South Africa. To perform and be fully understood and celebrated by my own people, it’s indescribable,” he said.
Alongside the documentary, Mabandla has launched a merchandise collection inspired by the tour. Partnering with designer Nao Serati, he has created a limited-edition AmaXesha Tour vest, blending his passion for fashion and music. The collection also includes the amaXesha Necklace, vinyl and CD editions of his albums amaXesha and iimini, and a signature tote bag.
“It’s a way of fusing music, art, and fashion, and giving listeners something meaningful to hold on to. The merch is for anyone who felt connected to amaXesha and the tour.”
