Gambia’s Abou and Fafa sign deal with Joluv Arts
Gambian duo Abou and Fafa have been signed to the record label Joluv Arts Entertainment.
The announcement was made by CEO of the label Saul Sowe, who also said that Joluv Arts have signed Flame Squad, a group of three young Gambians living in the country’s capital Banjul.
Sowe added that booking the artists for performances and their management will now be done through the label. Songs, studio times and video shoots will be handled by the label.
“For Abou and Fafa, we already start working on an album and I can’t wait to see the final productions of the album,” he said. “The album will be launched on 17 December. The venue and other details will be revealed soon. I am really excited working with them and hoping that both parties benefit at the end of the contract.” The same system will apparently apply to Flame Squad.
The siblings Abou and Fafa started a career in music in 2009, years after becoming interested in the field practised by both their singing mother and drumming father. Their grandparents were musicians as well. Five years later, the duo won the Best Mbalax Artists of 2014. The group has been on the rise since.
In 2012, Sowe recorded and produced Slam Gs album Choosan Ngenteh, and same year he took Vivian Ndure to perform in London. The supporting artists at the event were Jalimadi, Slam G, T Smallz and Nancy Nana Mboob.
Later Saul established the Joluv Arts label, signing Bai Babu, Jalimadi and Manding Morry in 2013.
As part of the contract, he released and launched Jalimadi’s Gambia album. Same year the popular album Dokowulom by Manding was launched at Jama Hall. Bai Babu released his famous Aj Bsakaw album last year.
