Master KG, Ndlovu Youth Choir to raise funds with Robben Island gig
‘Jerusalema’ hitmaker Master KG and the soul-stirring Ndlovu Youth Choir will perform live from Robben Island in South Africa on 25 April from 4pm CAT. The event coincides with Freedom Day on 27 April and is part of the Africa Rising series in partnership with NPO Live Love.
The concert, hosted by Maps Maponyane, will be livestreamed for free and audiences will have the opportunity to win an exclusive VIP experience at the event on the historic Robben Island by making an online donation of at least R30 ($2). The competition is open to anyone around the world.
Donations will go towards supporting the music and events industry under the Feed Our Crew banner, as well as charities working in sustainability, education and conservation.
“We would like to honour all the theatres, venues, technical providers and events companies that ensure every show is a magical experience,” Ndlovu Youth Choir musical director Ralf Schmit said. “We trust that our performance at Africa Rising will encourage you and give you hope that we will rise!”
Africa Rising brings music and travel to the world by telling inspiring African stories through uniquely produced music experiences. This will be done by broadcasting free live performances set in iconic locations in Africa and by showcasing some of the continent’s biggest artists.
The organisers of the series say they “will raise money to invest back into these industries and into communities that desperately need it.”
