Hip-hop fans cannot wait for Nyovest to #FillUpOrlandoStadium
Excitement is growing around one of the most anticipated events on South Africa’s entertainment calendar. Award-winning rapper Cassper Nyovest is gearing up to perform on 29 October at the historic Orlando Stadium in the Soweto township outside Johannesburg.
For weeks #FillUpOrlandoStadium has been generating great buzz on social media network Twitter as the rapper tries to rally a crowd to attend his show at the 40,000-capacity stadium.
Orlando Stadium is the ‘Doc Shebeleza’ singer’s second attempt to fill a major South African venue. Last year he made history by drawing a full house to the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg, which will be host to the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) this Saturday.
Orlando Stadium has hosted key events in South Africa’s history, including political rallies and a memorable appearance by former president Nelson Mandela after his release from prison.
Nyovest has gone all out to promote the Orlando extravaganza, tantalizing fans with Twitter posts that give a sneak preview into the concert. He tweeted a short video on Saturday to remind fans of the historic occasion.
“For 57 years Orlando Stadium has hosted giants. It was here that an African legend rose and the champion fell. Where the hero of the world’s music stages took his place on ours,” the clip recalls, citing various legends that have graced the Orlando Stadium, among them boxing legend Elijah Makhathini, singer Johnny Clegg, R&B group The O’Jays and the beloved late singer Brenda Fassie.
“It’s our time,” concludes the video, which was retweeted 1,100 times.
On Tuesday the popular DJ Sbu joined in on the act by giving a shout-out to “the biggest hustler I know”, on his breakfast radio show, saying that he couldn’t wait for 29 October and encouraging fans to go out and get their tickets.
“We are all going to fill up Orlando Stadium, because Cassper is not only going to fill up Orlando Stadium. He’s going to be filling up stadiums all over the African continent and all over the world, because how do you doubt a guy that filled up the Dome?” DJ Sbu said in a video tweeted to his 3,867 followers.
Nyovest has also taken to the busy streets of Johannesburg, the country’s economic heartland, to hand out fliers advertising the concert.
Some of the hottest names in the music industry have been lined up to support the rapper on October 29, including Babes Wodumo, Nasty C, Khuli Chana, Riky Rick, Kwesta and Major League Djz.
