Bio
A musician at heart, an entrepreneur in mind. I thrive in problem solving situations, my mission is to empower and grow the African music industries through smart interventions, technology, Fair Trade Music and an artist-first approach.
With an education in visual arts and visual communication, I've always drifted towards music. I started my first music company (Bobbejaan Productions) with four other music-mad monkeys, with them I learned how to host events, make parties, DJ on vinyl, run a live music venue (Red Right Hand) and stay up all night.
I learned to be an activist with Tshwane Arts Union and learned about the relationship between art and urban space, and artist's rights. Burning Groove was born out of these experiences; my music business work met my activism.
With Burning Groove I was exposed to printing technology, digital artwork, stock control, project and business management and most of all; copyrights in music. I also got used to failing, with various attempts to grow BG into a technology company falling flat on their face, sometimes before even starting.
The last attempt was successful, a joint venture with the newly minted Fox + Miller, a boutique development agency; Tjoon was born from the ashes of 2020. A company dedicated to supporting and growing African musical artists and their industries, through education and technology.
