SA: Watch T.Vizion’s new video Hold it Down featuring Emtee and Kay-E
The single is now available for streaming and download on all major platforms. The song is taken off his four-track EP Ten30Rebirth, which was released on his Backyard Factory Media imprint in July.
The video was directed by Nthenwhat and NCA films. Shot at the Soweto-renowned White House lounge in Meadowlands, the visuals give the viewer a heavy dose of explicit imagery with semi-nude women dancing around the rapper who is seemingly having a good time. The video takes a slight departure from the song's lyrics of hope and motivation with the jovial and often pervaded scenes of debauchery, which, the rapper says, “celebrate his progress thus far”.
Sonically, the mid-paced, groovy song features light, eerie yet atmospheric instrumentation overlaid by local hip hop heavyweight Emtee’s catchy hooks. Although he is featured in the song, Emtee does not appear in the video. Thematically, the T.Vizion sets out to take the listener on an inspirational journey, straddling between his challenging experiences and turning them into successes to motivate others.
“It’s an inspirational song, which says we all go through stuff, but the trick in life is to go through things so that you can find a more superior version of yourself beyond those challenges,” T.Vizion told Music In Africa.
The video adds to his impressive list of achievements. In 2012, the rapper won the South African Hip Hop Award for Best Mixtape of the Year. The musician also boasts a number of collaborations with top South African hip hop artists like Reason as well as other musicians like Zan-D, among others.
Born Neo Molokoane, T.Vizion's distinctive sound fuses Afrobeats and hip hop. The rapper was previously known as Neo Beats, but later changed his stage moniker to T.Vizion, short for tunnel vision, after his “drastic life-changing experience” losing functionality of his left eye.
T.Vizion suggests he took advantage of his tragedy and used it to help him develop personally. Commenting on the experience, the rapper said: “I have learned confidence in self is a great commodity as that can never be taken away from you.”
