Jidenna, Audu Maikori confirmed for AFRICON 2022 in LA
Nigerian-American rapper Jidenna and Nigerian label exec Audu Maikori have been confirmed for AFRICON 2022 at Magic Box in Los Angeles, US, from 25 to 28 May.
Produced by Amplify Africa and The Africa Channel, the conference coincides with Africa Day celebrations and runs with the vision of celebrating the diversity of the African continent and diaspora through entertainment, media, technology and leadership.
The event will also serve as a point of convergence for music, pop culture, innovation, activism and education from the global black diaspora.
The programme will feature workshops, panel discussions, musical performances, pitch and creative competitions, and a hackathon. A key highlight will be the Afro Ball honouring outstanding individuals who advance positive narratives about Africa and the diaspora.
Jidenna is best known for his 2015 hit ‘Classic Man’, which won him multiple accolades at Soul Train Music Awards that year, and secured him a Grammy nomination in 2016.
Nigerian lawyer, entrepreneur and social activist Maikori is the co-founder and president of Chocolate City Group, one of Nigeria’s biggest music labels.
Other speakers confirmed for AFRICON 2022 include LoveRenaissance co-founder Tunde Balogun, former BET International vice-president Ava Hall, Geanco Foundation co-founder and CEO Afam Onyema, Buzzup founder Denis Asamoah and TikTok director of creator community Kudzi Chikumbu, among others.
More speakers are expected to be announced in due course.
Registration for attendance is ongoing and interested participants can register for the event here.
Meanwhile, the organisers of AFRICON 2022 are partnering with ChakaBars to raise $500 000 to resettle a community in Goma, DRC, that was displaced due to a volcanic eruption.
