Jasbreed
Bio
Jasbreed is an acronym that was created by ‘Jasbreed’ themselves, it’s a single name that incorporates all names of the four founding members of the music group, namely Jamie Nali, Swibzy On Da Beat, Banjo The Poetic and Retro Africa.
Brought together by music and owing residency to three Southern African countries - Malawi, South Africa and Lesotho, the group was slowly formed in the reception foyer of an IT company in Johannesburg, South Africa – True story!! Retro and Nali had been in contact and regular communication because of Swibzy – Nali’s brother (blood brother, not hypothetical nonsense) and a fellow producer to Retro. Nali and Banjo would spark up conversations about hip-hop and music in general when they met – in the foyer. As the common link to all three individuals, it was Nali’s idea to try form ‘a little some-some’, the true formation though, occurred when after another regular chat between Nali and Banjo – in the foyer, Nali asked Banjo, “Yo, do you write rhymes?” To be continued.
Jasbreed is all about music – seriously!! In their debut album and future albums, EPs and singles, they have and will produce a variety of music ‘flavours’ from Afro-Pop, Afro Hip-Hop to RnB, Amapiano and Hip-Hop. Owning two diverse producers of which one is also a singer, the group knows no shortage of ‘beats’ and rhythms. Added to these already vast dynamisms, the broad scope in lyricism, wordplay, lingo and flow from the other half of the group, brings verbal creativity that will be appreciated by any listener from any corner of the world. This collision between beats, rhythms, lyricism and lingo creates a unique African fusion of music where dialect and beats transcend beyond African borders – Jasbreed’s music is made in Africa but enjoyed all over the world.
