Bio
Born in 1992, Johannesburg native, Daev Martian was raised in music by an enthusiastic father & a supportive mother. His interest in music production was sparked by his best friend's brother, who made beats for fun highschool. By the time he graduated from high school music slowly started becoming a priority & he would then go onto releasing music on the internet. After his 1st year in university, Dave decided to pursue Sound Engineering as something that would enhance his craft & career.
As time progressed Daev would gradually grow an organic following on his Soundcloud page, he would get recognition from online magazines & other labels from various parts of the world as well as locally. His sound is primarily influenced by Hip-hop & Jazz with electronic textures. He would go onto release with various independent labels including Goldie records, Gentle Records & Stay True Sounds ( USA, Australia & South Africa). His debut music video ‘88 ft ASAP Shembe & Thomas Hazey” was also premiered on Complex Magazine in the UK.
Through his career Daev has also had the opportunity of performing at events and major festivals in South Africa having shared stages with acts such as IAMNOBODI, Ryan Hemsworth, Low End Theory (Johannesburg Edition). Being A qualified Sound engineer for South Africa's some of the most notable musicians at a Jazz Club in town also influenced his approach to music.
Without any formal education in music, Dave managed to get an electronic jazz band together called NLite (w/ friends Robin Fassie & Chenoa Nwokedi). After their debut self-titled album they collaborated with other musicians on a studio recording at the South African Broadcast Corporation. This recording was nominated for the 2022 Mzantsi Jazz Awards for Best International Jazz Collaboration.The collaboration included Sio (Vocals), Marcus Gilmore (Drums), Tendai Shoxx Shoko (Bass), Robin Fassie (Trumpet), Chenoa Nwokedi (Guitar), Daev Martian (Keys). Their remix project was also nominated for the 2022 South African Music Awards for Artist of the year
Daev also released a solo rap project titled ’A Time For Everything’ which had a song featured on a Johnny Walker production called “The Ones Who Keep Walking”.Collaborations and production on his catalog include TV shows, adverts, Films & artists like Emamkay, Kid Fonque, Sio, Buli, Ziyon & Jullian Gomes amongst a few names.
