Sam Khubis Music Festival

Bio

Sam Khubis Festival is a Namibian event held every year on 8 May. It was designed to commemorate the battle that took place at Sam Khubis in 1915 of that date. This historic fight occurred when the German colonial army attacked the Baster people who had fled to their last stronghold of Sam-Khubis. The event is celebrated every year to give recognition to those who lost their lives at Sam Khubis. Activities held include dancing, traditional food, bull riding, the taming of a wild horse in 20 minutes, a demonstration of how a calf is branded and a 14km horse marathon.

On 28 February 2015, the Rehoboth Baster community hosted a Cultural Day to help raise funds bent on upgrading the Sam-Khubis heritage site.
