Anghami to launch AI-powered podcast, newsroom
Middle East and North Africa (MENA) music streaming giant Anghami has announced the upcoming launch of its AI-powered personalised podcast, as well as the Anghami AI Newsroom, its first-ever daily news podcast generated solely by AI.
The company says its AI-powered personalised podcast is “the first of its kind in the world, taking innovation to the next level and revolutionising the way we get valuable updates.”
The feature will allow users to create and customise their own personalised podcast by selecting topics, voices, and languages including English, Arabic and French. Topics range from local and global news, to music, sports, technology, business, and more. Anghami’s AI then crafts a podcast specifically tailored to their interests, providing a unique and unparalleled experience.
The Anghami AI Newsroom, meanwhile, autonomously researches and curates relevant topics, delivers concise summaries, and records content in multiple languages. By providing Anghami with a set of topics, users will also receive a tailored daily news digest of topics ranging from local and global reports to music, sports, technology, business, and more.
Anghami says the new feature is powered by OpenAI’s GPT models, utilising a diverse array of trusted sources from both regional and international outlets.
“We are excited to introduce this cutting-edge feature enabling users to personalise their daily content and curate a unique audio journey,” Anghami co-founder Elie Habib said. “This is a testament to our ongoing commitment to innovation and delivering exceptional user experiences. Our use of AI technology allows us to deliver accurate news updates in multiple languages tailored to our audience. This is a significant milestone for Anghami and the audio streaming industry in the MENA region.”
Anghami says the latest additions form part of efforts to showcase the capabilities of AI, especially within audio content generation. It follows a recent partnership with generative music platform Mubert to allow users create bespoke sounds for various uses such as social media, presentations or films using one million samples from over 4,000 musicians.
In March, Anghami posted a robust 2022 financial performance, with total revenue of $48.1 million, reflecting an increase of 35.6% compared to 2021. The platform also experienced a growth in its total paying subscribers, reaching 1.52 million subscribers, representing a 21% increase year-on-year. Additionally, its music streams increased by 20% compared to 2021, highlighting the strong demand for Anghami’s content, with Arabic music representing 60% of its streams.
