Ugandan music distributor Omziki launches operations in Ghana
Uganda-based music distribution platform Omziki has launched operations in Ghana, with Jonathan ‘Jonilar’ Nii Laryea named as the brand’s ambassador and country director.
The move, made public on 21 June, forms part of efforts to strengthen Omziki’s mission of becoming Africa’s foremost aggregator, focusing on maximising revenue and Africa’s streaming culture.
With this appointment, Jonilar will spearhead the expansion of Omziki’s operations in Ghana and the wider West Africa region, which is already home to similar companies like EMPIRE, ONErpm and Tieme.
“Jonilar’s contributions to the local digital music landscape have made him a reputable figure in the Ghanaian music industry, and his involvement with Omziki is expected to bring substantial growth and success,” Omziki said.
Jonilar told Music In Africa that his new role was a call to higher duty and an opportunity to impact the African story through music.
“I am honoured to be part of Omziki’s mission and look forward to leveraging my expertise to amplify the African music scene,” he said.
Through a series of public education initiatives and his dedicated podcast, Digital: A Music Education Series, Jonilar has actively promoted the importance of digital platforms in the music industry.
“Omziki is committed to revolutionising music distribution in Africa by providing a seamless platform for African artists and content creators to reach wider audiences globally,” the company said.
“By appointing Jonilar, Omziki aims to leverage his expertise and industry connections to further strengthen its presence and impact across the continent.”
