Black Sherif and Mr Eazi triumph at EMY Africa Awards in Ghana

The awards platform, the brainchild of EMY Africa Magazine, is a Father’s Day-related event honouring outstanding achievements in music, business, media, technology and sports, among other fields. This year marked the awards’ eighth edition and celebrated individuals across honorary and competitive categories. 

Black Sherif, who recently clinched the Best International Flow Award at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta, US, edged Stonebwoy, Camidoh, KiDi and King Promise to secure the EMY Music Man of the Year Award. Rapper Kofi Kinaata won the same award last year. 

Nigerian producer Cobhams Asuquo took home the Man of Courage Award, while fellow Nigerian artist Mr Eazi won the Young Achiever Award (Male). 

Other musicians who have previously picked up EMY Awards include highlife veteran Ebo Taylor, dancehall singer Stonebwoy, the late ethnomusicologist Prof Joseph HK Nketia and gospel artist Joe Mettle.
