Open call: Black Rock Senegal artist residency
Applications are now open for the fifth cycle of the Black Rock Senegal artist residency, running from approximately September 2024 to May 2025.
Black Rock is a multidisciplinary artist-in-residence programme established by US artist Kehinde Wiley in 2019. This initiative gathers artists from around the world for residencies lasting one to three months, providing them with the opportunity to live and work in Dakar, Senegal.
Eligibility
- This opportunity is open to artists of diverse mediums and all nationalities.
- The opportunity is open to any applicant over the age of 18.

The mediums listed on the application form include:
- Sound/performance/time-based practices
- Film
- Mixed media
- Painting
- Photography
- Sculpting
- Textile artistry
- Writing
The number of portfolio works required depends on the medium selected. If individuals do not see their medium listed, it is recommended to select the discipline that is most closely aligned with their medium or most closely related to their portfolio work and the proposed project they would be interested in exploring while in residence.

Interested creatives may complete the online application here by 15 January.
Each application will require:
- Cover letter
- Current CV
- Portfolio works (description and images)
NOTE:
- The number of portfolio works required changes depending on an applicant’s selected medium on the first page of the application.
- Interested applicants should submit all required materials via the online application form. Applications that do not follow the guidelines will not. be accepted.
