Nigeria: Pryme drops Bella Shmurda-assisted Gbera
Emerging Nigerian singer Pryme has unveiled his new single ‘Gbera’ featuring Bella Shmurda, which is available for streaming and download across all major digital platforms.
Released via G-worldwide Entertainment, the track follows Pryme’s recent single ‘Lavida’, and is premised on themes of love and intimacy, set against production by Xtofa.
Discussing the collaboration, Pryme said: “I described an idea to my producer Xtofa and we started working on it. The creative process was interesting; I felt the beat and started writing immediately. Bella was quick to agree, and we linked up in no time. Meeting him in person, he exuded good energy and vibes. Bella had already started writing his verse before we met, and it took him about 20 minutes to record it.”
Pryme’s sound blends African and urban pop. He also boasts notable writing credits on hits like ‘One Side’ by Iyanya and ‘Away’ by Davido, among others. He gained mainstream notice in 2017 with the release of his debut single ‘Trumpet’. However, it was his collaboration with industry giants Davido and Peruzzi on ‘Kilode’ in 2018 that properly propelled him into the spotlight.
On his part, Bella Shmurda, whose style is heavily inspired by fuji music, burst onto the scene in 2019, and currently boasts over 1.5 billion streams. His latest EP R2 Sept 12, released last month after a tour of Europe, heralds his sophomore album due later this year. “R2 Sept 12 represents a piece of me in every track,” he said upon the EP’s arrival.
“The release brings a local, indigenous sound to a global stage. The star-studded five-track project features Zlatan, Jeriq and Bloody Civilian, blending raw emotions with infectious beats.”
