Lucky Dube
Bio
Lucky Dube (1964-2007) was a South African reggae musician and Rastafarian. Born in Ermelo, South Africa, Dube grew up in a poor family and was raised by his mother, a single parent. He began his music career in the 1970s, performing in various local bands before forming his own group, The Slaves, in 1984.
Dube's music addressed social and political issues affecting South Africa during apartheid, earning him a large following and critical acclaim. He released several successful albums, including 'Rastas Never Die' and 'Taxman'. His music also gained international recognition, touring extensively in Africa, Europe, and the United States.
Lucky Dube was known for his powerful voice, thought-provoking lyrics, and energetic live performances. He was a true ambassador of South African reggae and a champion of social justice. Tragically, Dube was fatally shot during a carjacking in Johannesburg in 2007, leaving behind a legacy as one of Africa's most beloved and influential musicians.
