Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival: A fitting tribute to Tuku
Harare is abuzz with excitement as the inaugural Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival (OMIFA) approaches, celebrating the life and legacy of Zimbabwe’s beloved music icon. On 21 and 22 September, the event will bring together an impressive line-up of local artists who are set to dazzle audiences with an eclectic mix of genres and styles, reflecting Oliver Mtukudzi’s diverse influences and collaborations.
Headlining acts include Selmor Mtukudzi, who carries on her father’s legacy with her soulful voice, alongside Zimbabwe’s Afropop sensation Jah Prayzah. Feli Nandi brings Afro-soul vibes, while Mokoomba promises to get the crowd moving. Gemma Griffiths, Bryan K and Mary Anibal are also expected to deliver unforgettable performances. The line-up also features Djembe Monks, Andy Muridzo, Fusion 5 Mangwiro, Nisha T, Mwendamberi (Solution GC), Taffie Matiure, and Gwevedzi ReDefined.

Selmor Mtukudzi has carved out her own musical path while honouring her father’s legacy. With a career spanning over two decades, her journey began in the early 2000s, sharing the stage with her father before blossoming into a successful solo artist. Her music is a vibrant fusion of traditional Shona rhythms, Afropop, and soul, weaving together cultural heritage and modern sensibilities. Through her soulful voice, she explores themes of love, empowerment, and social justice, resonating with audiences across generations. Jah Prayzah, the Afropop sensation, will ignite the stage with his signature energy, belting out catchy hooks from hits like ‘Kutonga Kwaro’ and ‘Mdhara Vachauya’. With a career spanning over four decades, 66 albums, and numerous international collaborations, he remains one of Africa’s most influential and beloved artists. As a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and dedicated philanthropist, Mtukudzi’s music addressed social issues, promoted cultural heritage, and inspired countless artists and fans worldwide.
