Amsterdam Roots Festival
Bio
The Amsterdam Roots Festival is one of Europe's leading world music festivals, presenting both contemporary and traditional music styles from all over the world. It features upcoming and established artists, many of them performing for the first time in the Netherlands. With a fascinating range of acts the Amsterdam Roots Festival aims to showcase the diversity and beauty of musical culture from all over the world.
The festival culminates in a large outdoor event known as Roots Open Air, which takes place in the Oosterpark, where 50 000 people come together to watch and dance to over 40 performances. This is preceded by the Roots Indoor festival, which sees artists performing over several days at various live music venues in Amsterdam, such as Paradiso and the Melkweg.
The festival is an opportunity to not only share in the music of many cultures, but also experience those cultures first hand, with dance workshops, kids' entertainment, clothing stalls and a seemingly endless supply of food and drinks. The 2016 edition of the Roots festival takes place from 30 June to 3 July.
