Call for entries: Write score for Raymond Chandler's Playback
Media Sound Hamburg is providing musicians, composers, game musicians and sound designers with an opportunity to win the Young Talent Award Media Music by composing the theme music for American-British novelist and screenwriter Raymond Chandler’s novel Playback.
“Playback from 1958 is Chandler’s last complete detective novel with private detective Philip Marlow. For the seventh case, the American author modified his screenplay of the same name from 1949, which was rejected at the time and published after Chandler’s death. Playback is Chandler’s only novel that was not adopted for the screen,” Media Sound Hamburg says on its website.
Interested individuals are advised to download and read the Playback film script here, before composing music for the opening sequene.
Composer and sound designer Kristian Eidnes Andersen (Denmark), Cinema Musica magazine editor-in-chief Stephan Eicke (Germany/UK) and composer Than van Nispen tot Pannerden (Netherlands) will review the entries.
Three successful applicants will attend the ninth International Media Sound Hamburg Summer School for Film, Music, Game Music and Sound Design from 9 to 18 August in Hamburg, Germany. Additionally, the Kaiser Quartett will present the three award-winning pieces at Resonanzraum in Hamburg on 14 August 2019.
Note that successful applicants will be required to cover their traveling expenses. However, free accommodation and board will be provided.
The submission deadline is 1 June 2019.
