The Cooligans
Bio
“ Unite collective consciousness and universal love with music” that is the
mandate of the band.
Each of The Cooligans seems to have a different version of events of how the project came about, one of them even argues that they met at a Food stall somewhere in Johannesburg during a late night munchies run. But one thing the Johannesburg trio agree on is their music and all its intricacies. Formed back in 2019 The 3 piece live performance outfit incorporates Digital and analogue sounds of drums, synths, keys, bass and percussions, vocals and more, representing a new generation of free artistry that aims to showcase not only the vast talent of today’s creatives but also the unrestricted possibilities of self-expression. Each member with over 10 year music performance experience they have come together to create with bravery, each song composed and performed expresses a different musical approach and has in turn developed a timeless sound signature and musicality that bends the usual genre rules.
Their debut release titled Death of the genre part 1 was released on 11.11.22 The 4 track EP is a sonic experience that blends genres, crossing between them with the unconventional expressions needed for artistic freedom. It’s an album that isn’t influenced by anything but their uniqueness. The music is inspired by and also represents our personalities and experiences as a band both
individually and together. “ As artists, we are not afraid to be ourselves. We believe that through our music and art we can inspire others to be themselves as well. This EP is our first step into the world of modern experimental music but also pays homage to hip hop, classical, jazz and psychedelic rock. Through various collaborations with other artists and our own music library, we aim to create cohesive experiences for you as a listener through multiple genres of music”. Part 2 is due for release in the first half of 2023 with 8 tracks, continuing with the boundary defying sounds.
