Ubuntu Roads
Bio
Ubuntu Roads is a collaborative project from Senegal directed by Alibeta.
Ubuntu Roads is a surprising mix between the sérère culture, Afrojazz, and some gnawa, pulaar, or mandingo influences that leads us into a greater vision of the Human culture.
ALIBETA (SN): Through his many journeys, both artistic and spatial, Alibeta weaves connections, thus irrigating the world. His interests go from music to theater and cinema. His will, as an author-composer-interpret, is to help build a world in which Humans help each other, creating justice and equity.
CHEIKHOU (MR): Ahmed Cheikhou Toure BA is a Mauritanian artist. Son of Seydou BA, an eminent writer/composer. Cheikhou is a multi-instrumentalist, switching from percussions to xalam with the subtlety of the Sahel winds.
KHALID (MA): Mäallem Khalid Sansi is a Moroccan artist born from a Gnaouie family. Through his gimbri, his voice and dance, Khalid performs worldwide and has accompanied great acts such as Snarky Puppy, at the Gnaoua of Essaouira festival.
MARCIA (FR): Marcia Higelin Mikhalkova is a young french artist who expresses her engagement for justice through her music and singing. She is also the originator of several social projects (La Parole Aux Enfants, MÂWA, You Make Awareness…).
Ubuntu Roads is the link between the past and the future, between the north and the south, between the modern and the traditional.
The band’s sound is inspired by the Serer culture, Afrojazz, gnawa, pulaars and mandingo. Ubuntu Roads crosses many musical borders, transcending genres, cultures and cosmogonies, beyond tools, spirituality and matter.
