Vevo getting 800 million views a day
Music video platform Vevo has seen its viewership grow by 300% in the past five years.
The company announced the impressive growth last week when it celebrated 10 years since it was launched by Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI.
Music Business Worldwide reported that Vevo’s current daily viewership averages about 800 million views a day, with weekend days recording more than 1 billion views.
“Over the last 10 years we have seen incredible growth in consumption of music videos across the globe,” Vevo CEO Alan Price said.
“Visually representing artists’ creativity, music videos are now an essential part of pop culture, and Vevo has played a pivotal role in delivering them to a global audience. The last decade has seen monumental changes in the music, technology and advertising ecosystems.”
Vevo also boasts of more than 400 000 official music videos inclusive of original series and performance content.
Through artist development programmes such as Lift and Dscvr, Vevo has also introduced new acts to its consumers. African acts featured on the platform include Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage and Davido, Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Alikiba (Tanzania) and AKA (South Africa), among many others.
As part of its 10th anniversary, Vevo will be releasing a list of its most-watched videos of the past 10 years, along with hosting an event in New York next month.
