DJ music store Beatsource launched
A new digital download store that offers playlists for open-format DJs was launched this week.
Beatsource went live on 1 October 2019 and is created by leading music providers in the DJ community, Beatport and DJcity. This joint venture was first announced in February.
DJcity provides curated music, including custom-produced edits, to the open-format DJ community while Beatport is a record pool that boasts more than 450 000 active DJ customers and 35 million unique visitors to its site each year.
“Beatsource provides the global open-format DJ community with access to a suite of products tailored specifically to their needs and created by esteemed members of their community,” Beatsource said.
“Drawing on our years of experience, Beatsource will develop its high-quality digital music store, streaming service for leading DJ hardware and software providers through our LINK technology, and establish a new and improved record pool. Beatsource will work with the global DJ community to serve it and help define it because Beatsource is made up of the global DJ community.”
Beatsource integration with Beatport LINK means that DJs will be able to access Beatsource’s catalogue from apps such as Rekordbox DJ and Virtual DJ and use the Offline Locker feature, too.
The new platform is structured around playlists in various genres assembled from both new and classic tracks that get heavy rotation in clubs. Genres include Afrobeats, hip hop, R&B, Latino, electronic, radio hits, Southern hits and cumbia, among others. Songs start from $1.29 each for MP3s, with WAVs and AIFFs starting at $0.75
"We are processing music libraries that contain thousands upon thousands of tracks every day from your favourite labels, both the majors and the coolest indies," Beatsource said. "If you do not see something that you are looking for, we can assure you that it will be there in the coming days or weeks as we continue to publish new content hourly."
Beatsource's launch features playlists from curators including radio DJs such as Heisler Euan (Kidd Spin), the music director at DJcity, Andrew Ortiz (DJ Drew), Alaric Fuller (DJ Majestik) James Grey (DJames) and Daniel Calderon (DC), the head of Latin music programming at TuneIn.
"Beatsource will deliver expertly curated playlists and premium content from our label partners specifically tailored to the open-format DJ, all leveraging Beatport's world-class technical infrastructure," Beatport CEO Robb McDaniels said.
