Gorur Keerthy Raghavan
Bio
Gorur Keerthy Raghavan is a percussionist and composer for percussion ensembles from India. His percussion instrument is popularly known as mridangam, a double-headed drum that is not only an accompanying instrument to Carnatic Classical Music but also takes the lead role in percussion ensembles. It is popular for its complex yet melodious rhythmic patterns.
Gorur started his musical journey at the age of 18, learning mridangam under the tutelage of All India Radio Top grade artist Shri Rajakesari. He extended his knowledge at the percussion school Sruti Laya Kendra, founded by Mridangam maestro Guru Shri Karikudi R Mani.
Gorur has lived in the Middle East for several years and was actively involved in musical events. He performed on various stages and received an award from Kuwait Kannada Koota for rendering musical contributions to the community. At present, he is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and on a journey to explore Africa, to sharpen his percussion skills, and to continue to perform.
