H_art the Band
Bio
H_art the Band is a hugely popular live fusion trio from Nairobi, Kenya. The band is made up of Mordecai Mwini Kimeu, Wachira Gatama and guitarist Kenneth Muya.
Formed in 2013 after an impromptu live jam, the band quickly rose to prominence all over the region after hitting the top of many radio and music video charts. Their big break was in 2014 when they released ‘Uliza Kiatu’ to much regional acclaim – it landed them two nominations in the All-Africa Music Awards (2015): Revelation of the African Continent and Most Promising Artist.
The music the band produces is hinged on technical prowess: picture soulful, African inspired acoustics, smooth, harmonized vocals fused with a touch of well-knit spoken word poetry all blended into one thick pastry of art then served with a witty sense of humour. They fuse African rooted sounds with poetry and have released three albums to date: Shoekran (2019), Made in the Streets (2019) and Simple Man (2021).
H_art the Band are heavily inspired by day-to-day experiences and their lyrics music speaks to generations: from the young to the aged. Clinging on to a vision of changing the world with their art, these three versatile blends of artists are a revolutionary force not only in their musical poetic presentation but also in their conspicuously fashionable sense of futuristic style.
They have so far performed at festivals such as Sauti za Busara (Zanzibar), WOMEX, Doa Doa Festival (Uganda) and Africa Nouveau (Kenya) as well as local events such as Koroga Festival. They have also shared the stage with celebrated musicians such as Sauti Sol, Nyashinski, Chronix, Awilo Longomba, Patoranking, Wizkid and Yemi Alade, among others.
