Ahuma Bosco Ocansey
Bio
I have been involved with the music industry in various categories over the past 35 years. During this period I have worked as a mobile DJ, musician, administrator, journalist, radio presenter and a media executive apart from being a Chartered Marketer.
As a musician I played with a reggae band known as Sons of Zion in the 80s during which our peers on the reggae scene included Kente, Lokal Krysis which featured international star Rocky Dawuni and Non Aligned as well as Felix Bell. Currently I am also involved in Artiste Management through Tafari Productions Ltd which deals with artiste management and events within the reggae space.
During my time as a journalist I was a correspondent for a number of publications notable the Weekend Chronicle from the Chronicle Newspapers stable, Dr Wireko Brobbey's Sunday Herald as well as the African Observer among others.
Till 2013, I was a columnist for Newsone in Ghana writing on the Creative Arts in general and the music industry in particular.
My work as an Administrator has been with the Musicians Union of Ghana, MUSIGA which is home to over 4,000 musicians. The current leadership of the Union had an uphill task of rebranding and changing the perception of the Union as a club for old musicians. To a large extent we have succeeded in rebranding the Union thereby making it attractive to younger musicians and corporate bodies.
We have established an annual festival Ghana Music Week which is a weeklong celebration of Ghana music with an exhibition, Honors Night, workshops and seminars all by an international concert.
I have also been working on a number of educational activities like workshops and seminars, organizing and making presentations, moderating and facilitating apart from participating in panel discussions.
In terms of the media I have worked with some of the leading radio stations in Ghana. We were the founding staff of Adom FM in the Multimedia Group Ltd where I worked for 11 years as PD during which period I was responsible for developing the Adom brand and content as well as talent management. During that period, I established Temafest an annual festival which involved games during the day featuring various communities and climaxing with a music concert in the night. We also transformed the annual Kwahu Easter festival to a must attend event.
Prior to my exit from Multimedia, I was transferred to Joy and Hitz FM where I was PD responsible for Music and Entertainment.
Currently in addition to my work with MUSIGA I am the General Manager of Breeze 90.9 FM which is owned by the Maestro Kojo Antwi.
I have a keen interest in Music Business education, Branding and Marketing as well as talent management in addition to my addiction to the media.
I am looking at leveraging the insights I have gained in these areas on a continent wide basis.
