Ariel Juana
Bio
Bass and vocals duo Ariel Juana is a project born in Johannesburg in 2016.
Their music merges aspects of several styles, aiming to acknowledge these genres and their cultural background while addressing current affairs through song.
Although a duet, oftentimes they explore different musical possibilities through collaborations with artists from diverse backgrounds.
In June 2020 their work, “certain songs for uncertain times”, a concert recording, shown at the National Arts Festival Makhanda ( former Grahamstown) received a Standard Bank Ovation Award.
In July 2021 their work “looking Forward “ ft Stanley Matlou and Simon Manana received a second consecutive standard bank Ovation award.
Since their debut, the project has taken their music to many places around southern Africa, sharing their music with great musicians including Andile Yenana, Reza Khota, Afrika Mkhize, Mandla Mlangeni, Tumi Mogorosi, Gontse Makhene, Salim Washington, Abraham Mennen, Stanley Matlou, Yonela Mnana, Malcolm Jiyane, Siphiwe Shiburi, Yogin Sullaphen, and Argentine pianist Hernan Lugano.
