Music is the art of thinking with sounds
From the days of Dukes nightclub in the eighties to mixing, Dj, music producer and sound engineer, DJ Choc has spent decades in the South African Music arena and in 2020 he will share his love for Vinyl and his collection with you, a collector of vinyl’s, with over 50 000 in the vault, he gave birth to the Vinyl Vault Sessions, broadcast from his Vinyl Vault.
DJ Choc has worked, written and or produced for numerous artists in the South African Music Industry for over 30 years, an icon, a Master of Mix, an Old School legend. A man with an ear for talent and soul that offers all a hand of encouragement. A humble man who remembers his roots but reaches for the stars.
Born in December in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, South Africa, one of four brothers. Music is in his blood, his Dad opened Dukes Place in 1987, an extremely popular nightclub. He began his music career with Dukes and eventually became a permanent fixture on the airwaves and in the clubs, playing on the likes of Kaya FM, Metro FM and YFM. His old-school style is something that sets him apart from the rest. He realized a dream in producing albums for Mthembu Mncedisi, Sindile Mnisi, Skipper Shabalala and Rofhiwa Manayage. This sparked a fire in him and lead to his own album and record label, Chocs Pro Sound and produce his own albums, World Music, Chocolate Groove, We Need Love, InHouse Bandits all written and produced by him.
From his sophisticated studio, he produced for the highlight of his career, which was a Metro Award nominee, for Charlie Mindgames best R & B, the album Private Appointment was a huge success. Co-wrote and produced the smash hit Gogo on the Smanga Album Afro Soul. He has worked with, written and or produced for artists such as DJ Clock, DJ Cleo, DJ Mshega and many many more.
and 2021 saw the birth of Zion Agreement Jungle Juice Mix #uBaba. 2022 Gave rise to Maskandi, Bayede abum with Mtkehala uMaqatha no Dogzin.
Writing and producing was not enough for this powerhouse, he then began working on the Gig Rig concept, designing, building and producing the Gig Rig, this is where he met his wife Sandy and together, they designed and worked on projects for Vodacom, SAB, Pernod Ricard and Telkom. The worked on the first Mobile clinic for Africa for United National, the first mobile computer school from the Bill Gates foundation. Eventually being able to own Gig Rigs for hire.
In 2020, with his love for Vinyl’s, it’s back to his roots, DJ Choc will share his collections, knowledge and skill on Vinyl with a three hour, live broadcast, all genres, songs you love, tracks that you just can’t find today.
