DOTTi The Deity is a leader among the new crop of Neo-Folk artistes springing out of the buzzing Southwestern part of Nigeria. A dynamic, highly creative songwriter and recording/performing artist with unique, strong, and skilled vocals, he is not scared to borrow from the sound of the lost-era of Nigerian Folk music to create a fresh and timeless sound.
He hails from the ancient city of Ibadan and was born to Serifat, the second wife of Amusat Okeowo. Separated from his family a few years later, he had to live with his grandparents in Lagos, Nigeria, where he began to hone his musical skills.
He composed his first song at age six, while playing at the dining table in his Grandfather's house, later growing up to draw inspiration from different genres of music, from Jazz, Soul, Yoruba Folk, and Pop music, creating his own unique blend of sound which he calls Nu Age Folk.
Amongst other personal achievements, DOTTi was the maiden winner of the MTN Y'ELLOSTAR Music competition.
His first single 'Jolly Christmas' was released on the 14th of December, 2019, and was produced by Rotimikeys. He followed that up with his first EP aptly named 'Songs in Isolation' during the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic. The project was a compilation of 5 songs inspired by his experiences during the lockdown.
In 2022, he released the critically acclaimed classic "Forever Sweet", a song celebrating unadulterated love, a love that lasts forever.
The song as since garnered over 1 Million streams across digital streaming platforms and is currently the go-to song for viral wedding proposal videos on social media. Amassing over 300,000 videos using the song on TikTok and over 50,000 on Instagram.
The song peaked at #1 on Spotify’s Viral 50 - Nigeria chart ahead of songs from established names like Asake. The song also made it to #13 on Spotify’s Viral Hits in Africa playlist.
DOTTi The Deity has worked as a songwriter and vocalist with some popular names within the Nigerian music industry including, Cobhams Asuquo, RotimiKeys, Omawumi, and many others. He has voiced and/or written popular jingles for radio and TV advertisements including GTBank Quick Credit advert & British American Tobacco Foundation campaign song titled ‘Wealth is here' adverts both produced by Cobhams Asuquo, Dettol Sure advert, Lipton Ice Tea advert as well as Mouka Foam advert to name a few.
DOTTi believes and proclaims his gift is from God and aspires to drive positive cultural change in the next generation using his music.
