Flying Bantu
Bio
Flying Bantu is a five-piece music group from Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
The group's sound is a fusion of Afro-rock, reggae, funk and jazz with an underlying zimbabwean flavour. Flying Bantu recorded and released a five-track EP titled 'Cruising Attitude' followed by the ten-track Ceasefire album in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Currently they are in the studio working on their second album scheduled for release late 2022.
The band has performed at multiple festivals such as South Africa’s Rocking the Daisies, Splashy Fen and Up The Creek as well as Zimbabwe's Vic Falls Carnival and Miombo Magic Music Festival where they have shared the stage with MiCasa, Black Coffee. The group gained mileage at the 2018 edition of Harare International Festival of The Arts where they brushed shoulders with South African artists Lira and Beatenburg. In 2019, Flying Bantu stepped off the African continent for the first time with a performance at the 2019 edition of Canadian Music Week in Toronto. In early 2020 they cut their 12 week South African tour short as they raced back home to beat the closing borders.
Throughout the Covid pandemic Flying Bantu has worked tirelessly to improve themselves as artists and the band is confident that their next body of work will usher them onto a new stage as both a live and recording act, whilst simultaneously exposing an authentic 21st Century Zimbabwean sound.
