Fungai Nengare
Bio
Fungai Nengare is a versatile Zimbabwean artist known for his warm, Afro-centric fusion of jazz, pop and RnB. Fungai started singing at the tender age of 7 and by the age of 10 found himself being an assistant choirmaster at his local primary school. He has had a passion for music ever since. He went on to study Music in World Cultures at UNISA at degree level, along with a Teaching Diploma specializing in infants. He moved to Harare to further his music career and started performing at events like the acoustic night at the Zimbabwe German Society.
Fungai’s talent landed him a role as lead vocalist for the renowned outfit Jazz Invitation. He also composed their hit song ‘Nguwe’. His happy and accessible melodies have seen Fungai grace high-profile stages, corporate events, weddings, festivals and acoustic sessions in restaurants. Fungai has worked with artists such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Prudence Katomeni, Patience Musa, Dj Naida, Simba Tagz, Reverb 7, Tehn Diamond, Synik, Rutendo Denise, Prayer Soul, Adiona and Tariro Negitare.
Fungai went on a three-month exchange programme in Munich, Germany, which saw him perform at various festivals, namely, Nuremburg and Chiemsee Festivals in Germany and the Zwarte Cross festival in Holland. He recorded a collaborative album with Munich-based band Jamaram. Back in Zimbabwe he perfomed with Jamaram at HIFA 2014 and with another German band, Masaa, at the Zimbabwe German Society's 30th anniversary. In 2015 he performed in Vienna, Austria and Regensburg, Germany.
