KAECY
Bio
KAECY is a talented South African singer, songwriter, performer, and recording artist, hailing from the township of Mamelodi, located east of Pretoria. Growing up in a family of singers, it was only fitting for Kaecy to pursue a musical career, showcasing his vocal skills in public from the age of just 10. In September 2007, he was appointed as the choir conductor for Rhodes University’s Voice of Glory Choir. During his tenure, the choir showcased their talent in various venues, including the Great Hall at Wits University, and notably at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown (now Makhanda) in both 2007 and 2008. After returning to Pretoria in 2009, Kaecy transitioned to working as a background vocalist for numerous artists, including Hassan Green (US), Bongi & Collin (SAMA and Crown Gospel Award winners), Letang, and Percy Mthunzi, contributing both as a session artist in the studio and during live performances on stage.
In 2014, Kaecy embarked on his journey as a solo artist with his inaugural concert, #SO_BEAUTIFUL, which took place on October 11, 2014, in Pretoria. He received tremendous acclaim for his songwriting, vocal prowess, and overall impressive stage presence. This was succeeded by the launch of his debut album, “So Beautiful,” on October 6, 2017, followed by a documentary and collaborative album titled “We TooAre Called” in 2022, and most recently, Kaecy released an EP named “Breaking Rules” on October 4, 2024. All of these works can be found on various streaming platforms.
Kaecy has appeared on Afro Café's #NewComersOnAfroCafe special and Gospel Classics' #NewBreed special, both of which were broadcast on SABC 2. Additionally, Kaecy has had the privilege of performing at several prestigious venues nationwide, such as the South African State Theatre, the Johannesburg Theatre, the Javett Art Centre, and the Fringe Program at the 2022 National Arts Festival inMakhanda (Grahamstown), Eastern Cape.
Kaecy is a Mandela Washington Fellow (2023) and an alumnus of the program. During his fellowship, he worked with fellow African artists on a song titled "Mandela’s Vision", where he contributed to the songwriting, arranging, and vocals. This song was chosen to be performed at the closing ceremony of the Mandela Washington Fellowship Summit, held in August 2023 in Washington, DC.
Kaecy is currently working on his second solo studio album titled “These Songs Are About Him”, due for release later in 2024.
