Khillaz Champian
Bio
Khillaz Champian reggae and dancehall artist from Malawi.
He has worked with several Malawian top producers. His name started trending mostly in 2018 when his music topped reggae and dancehall music charts on Malawian radio stations and performing live in Cape Town’s trending venues.
Khillaz is always a good surprise. On each production, Khillaz develops a new version of himself, while providing an uplifting and inspirational message of positivity and encouragement to the listener.
Khillaz moved to Cape Town in 2016, he currently resides, in the township of Imizamo Yethu, in Hout Bay. Khillaz is never shy to showcase his passion: his current record label (D’versCT) discovered him while he was a chef at one of the most renowned fine dining restaurants on the Atlantic seaboard (there is a video online of that night). The team was blown away by his character and his talent.
In 2020, Khillaz has released his first album “Ruling Town”:
“The album is a coherent composition of Dancehall music with African elements - A mix of Chichewa, Khillaz’s native language from Malawi, Jamaican Patois and Caribbean English, very typical for the genre. But always accessible to the English-speaking audience, and relatable to all rap/trap & reggae-dancehall amateurs beyond boarders: vibey, rhythmic productions, catchy chorus, entraining flows that Khillaz drops with easiness.”
With this album, Khillaz is becoming a major reference of today’s Malawian dancehall music. The recognition has been growing for a few years already, while today the field is widening, and Khillaz shows that he is ready for it and able to make things happen.
