Bio
Lindsey Abudei is a Nigerian-born singer-songwriter and improv vocal composer whose genre-fluid contemporary sound is influenced by diverse genres — Classical, Rock, Folk, Jazz, R&B and Electronica.
Raised in Jos, Nigeria by parents with diverse musical tastes —Rock, Classical, Blues, Jazz, R&B— and from artists like QUEEN, Roberta Flack, The Beach Boys, Stevie Wonder, she honed her sound and has work credits as a collaborator with British trumpeter, Tom Arthurs, Grammy-nominated composers Morgan Guerin and Vijay Iyer. She has also had lent her vocals to projects by artists like MI Abaga, Jesse Jagz, Sonti Mndebele and worked as a sound collaborator for Ivorian photographer, Keren Lasme and Ghanaian photographer, Kwasi Darko.
In 2013, Lindsey released Brown, her EP which got her an RFI Prix Découvertes Award in the same year. In 2016, her acclaimed debut album and sophomore project , '...And The Bass Is Queen. ' was released and now followed by the release of her third recording project, 'Kaleidoscope'.
She is a 2017 Art OMI: Music Fellow, a2018 BANFF Jazz And Creative Music Alum., a 2018 Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) Alum., a 2019 British Council ColabNowNow Art Alum, a 2021 OneBeat Music Fellow and a 2022 Black Girls Glow Sound Fellow.
