McGee Keys
Bio
McGee Keys (born George Mokwena on 17 July) was born in Middleburg.
He went to Mhluzi primary school that’s where he started his musical career by joining the school choir and started playing the keyboard at the age of 10years. He then moved to Hendrina and studied a few years there and then moved back home to finish his matric at Sofunda Secondary School.
He then later when and studied Business Management and Accounting at Midkol. McGee keys is a Soulful house Dj, a pianist, a stage performer, songwriter and know with his production skills as a music producer that comes with a unique sound. His love for music is deeply rooted as he lives by what he does best and followed his calling in this art.
Growing up at a musical surround listening to different types of tunes, from Jazz to Soul, R&B, Hip Hop, Classical to Gospel and the list goes on. Mostly got his influence came from Jazz and Gospel which he’s still call it his 1st love whether local or international.
In 2004 he won an award of being the Best Stage Performer and young musician around at a competition that was held in Middelburg. Performing with his 1st time ever group called Mighty Singer, a gospel group. After leaving the so beloved group he went on with his musical career and was a church musical director and where he then won another award Best Performance and Best Music Arrangement in 2008. He started writing his own music at a very early age and sharing his gift to the musicians around him and he was now recognised around Mpumalanga 1 of the good musicians. He spends most his time with friends in their small room where they created a studio and that’s where most of the music was created. McGee Keys tried out most of the major auditions in South Africa but unfortunately he never made it through, even if he made it on the 1st round he wouldn’t go further than 3 rounds of the competitions.
In 2010 he gained more recognition when he joint a group in Nelspruit where he was playing a piano and the started touring around SA. He then started his path as a DJ in the same year. In 2011 he met with Cubique Dj and they started making music together and that brought them to the light as DJs and soulful house producers. They’ve been working together since and assisted Cubique DJ on his very 1st album called Alternative.
His love form music has brought him closer to more musicians such as Kaylow, Nqubeko Ndebele, Nathan X, Musa Sukwini, Cuebur, Artitude, Zano Urban, Royal Zino, and even international musicians and many more musicians which he had shared stage with them.
