Morore Raymond Kamogelo Mphahlele, an anagram of his names makes the stage name: 'MORAYKS'.
Who is Morayks?
Born in Bolobedi Kgapane and raised in Makgothane Mamaolo Ga-Mphahlele near Lebowakgomo then later moved to Seshego in Limpopo. Morayks has performed with music legends such as Kwela Tebza, Spirit of Praise, Presss, Caiphus Semenya, Vusi Mahlasela shared the stage with Salif Keita (Mali), Angelique Kidjo...the list is extensive. Went to college at CAPRICORN FET COLLEGE in Seshego, he studied civil engineering but then he realized his love of music. He then went to Gauteng (Pretoria) to enhance his musical talent.
MUSIC PROFILE
Upon his arrival in Gauteng in 2007, he studied music theory and practical at The South African State Theatre under MC Art. He had the privilege to work with the Grammy Award nominee KWAII jazz legend Don Laka, all over the country including neighboring countries, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland and Botswana and as far as China. Morayks was on a tour with Don Laka as a lead singer - singing tracks from the 2017 album: titled Reflections. Not only is he a unique musician who plays several instruments but a vocal coach as well.
Morayks released his debut album in 2013. The album consists of 12 tracks plus one bonus track, the album was produced by Morayks and co-mentored by Dr Vusi Mahlasela and Selaelo Selota and musicians who supported the album are associated with music legends and are professionals in the music industry.
He was on media tour in Lesotho shortly after the release of his album spanning from 2013 and 2014, was featured on Lesotho TV, The Thahameso morning program interviewed MORAYKS followed by radio interviews at major stations, the likes of ULTIMATE FM, LESOTHO FM, KEL FM and PEOPLE’S CHOICE FM also an insert on LENA website, INFORMAT and LESOTHO TIMES NEWSPAPER.
January 2014 saw Morayks performing and being interviewed live on the EXPRESSO BREAKFAST SHOW ON SABC 3 at their studios in Cape Town. Morayks has also performed live and had interviews on the following SA National TV programs: Morning Live on SABC 2, ANN7 channel 407, Afro Café on SABC 2, KayaFm Live with Nicky B.
His debut Album-Lesotho was officially launched in July 2014 with the guest artists being Vusi Mahlasela, his mentor. The album received and still getting significant airplay on national radio stations the likes of Thobela FM, Motsweding FM, Kaya FM, Radio 2000, Lesedi FM, SA FM, Power FM, regional and local radio stations the likes of Mokopane FM, SK FM, GLFM and Tshwane FM amongst others, the list is quite extensive.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Morayks is the winner of Best African Jazz Album of the 9th annual SATMA Awards.
Morayks was also featured to perform with 6-time Grammy Award winner Bebe Winans at Carnival City in April 2014.
In August 2014, Morayks performed at the Common Wealth Games held at Glasgow, United Kingdom.
