Samantha Mogwe
Bio
Samantha Mogwe is an RnB/Soul singer based in Gaborone, Botswana.
She was born to a Motswana father and a Zambian mother. Mogwe brings a fusion element of neo-soul/R&B. Having been raised to appreciate poetry and the performing arts, she was exposed to music at an early age and was also encouraged to tell stories through music, writing and poetry.
She is a multifaceted individual who places great value to edification and re-inventive qualities. She holds a degree in theology and has also gone on to study music with the Trinity College of London.

- Accomplishments to date -
• 2nd runner up for My African Dream Junior singing category in 2003.
• Winner of the Gabz Karaoke Idols in 2004 as the youngest contestant.
• Made the top 24 of African Idols as the only representative from Botswana.
• Performed at the monthly Exodus Live Poets events as well as their annual festivals alongside artists such as Neo Quashie, TJ Dema, Phil Rotz, KK the beat boxer.
• Has shared the stage with well-known artists such as Zahara, The Soil, Zonke, Joe Thomas, Kenny Latimore, Lira, Micassa, Hugh Masikela, Musiq SoulChild, etc.
• 'You Got Me Singing', a song she featured on, produced by Groove Cartell and remixed by Spirit Chasers, went on to be the most downloaded house song in 2013 on Trax Source.
• Her first single ‘Transition’ was well.
• Currently has around 200 000 followers on social media.
• YAMA award winner in 2014 for Best Female Artist for this year. Also a BOMU Award winner for Best Packaged Album in 2015.
• Has had the opportunity to perform not only in Botswana, but in South Africa, Namibia, Ethiopia and Sweden.
• Invited to be one of the speakers at TED X Gaborone, a platform that encourages the sharing of ideas and life concepts.
- Projects -
• 2012-14: A part of the Inside Out Collective which hosting art shows to bring awareness to various social ills. Basing these shows on the belief that music has the power to send strong messages and therefore inciting dialogue.
• 2014: Worked with PSI (Population Services International) Botswana on safe male circumcision champagne, which went on to take first place for team spirit in the US.
• 2016: In collaboration with the American Embassy, Samantha attended an exchange programme which focused on how to run programmes without focusing on government grants and outside funding. A vital skill for community based programmes and ideas of how to run.
