Shegun West

Shegun West is a Nigerian artist based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He started out as percussion player years ago in Lagos where he was born. He discovered his potential as a bass guitar player and later joined the first band while he was in high school. He left the band and joined Compassion Band. Few months later, he proceeded to Accra, Ghana where he performed with local musicians in that country.
He left Ghana for Lagos and was part of the band that performed at the inauguration of the Felaberation Festival hosted by Femi Kuti son of the legendary Fela Kuti. He later worked for Paul Play’s band where he shared the stage with international artists such as Linden David Hal, Eve, Awilo and Magic System to mention but a few.
In 2004, he moved to Johannesburg and began working with a number of artists and bands such as Denim, Tokyo Groove, Olufemi, Ambassadors of Jazz, Khanya, Kunle Ayo, Uche, James Okon, Mapumba, Pops Mohamed, Karen Zoid and Lionel Petersen.
