Soundz Tabuu

Siphephelo Bulunga, who is known in music circles as, Soundz Tabuu – has crafted his own genre of music called Neo-Traditional music, a blend of Nguni Indigenous music, Zulu Traditional music and Urban styles of Kwaito, House and Hip Hop.

His inspiration ranges from the field recordings of Dr. Hugh Tracey’s native musical expeditions to modern indigenous musicial pillars such as Bavikile Ngema, Dr. Sazi Dlamini, Madosini, Smiles Makamo and Dizu Plaatjies.

Soundz Tabuu got the opportunity to record his first song in 2004 and has never looked back since. In 2017, he released his debut Rap EP titled The Hiatus – a 7-Track EP flowing gently between Boom Bap and Mid-Tempo House – Prosperity was a stand out track on the project, earning Tabuu his stripes as a lyricist.

Since the release of this project, Soundz Tabuu has undergone a massive music metamorphosis, from digital music production to playing Percussion for some of Durban’s finest bands (Stone Soup, Igolide, Ntomb'yelanga and Future Africa) and furthering his quest in Indigenous Music by collected and teaching himself how to play instruments such as uMakhweyana, uMqangala, Kalimba, Flute, Isitolotolo (Jew’s Hard) and Cajon

Soundz Tabuu released his debut Neo-Traditional Man EP in October 202 – this is his first project blending Indigenous Instruments and digital music production creating his unique Neo-Traditional genre.
