Bio
Founded in 1985 Sunduza toured extensively under the late Simon Banda from 1992 visiting Canadian childrens festivals, Singapore international Festival, Afropfingsten Festival in Switzerland, and many repeat festivals and theatres on successive Uk tours that incorporated WOMAD, Glastonbury, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Sidmouth, Commonwealth Manchester games, Newcastle Opera House, Gulbenkian theatre, Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, West Yorkshire Playhouse etc. For ten years during Zimbabwe meltdown two artists conducted week long workshops for over 45000 children in Yorkshire and created the intercultural voluntary choir SOSA-XA! Sounds of Southern Africa in Sheffield (www.sosa-xa.org.uk)that has met weekly during lockdown online taught by Charlie Banda Sunduza's artistic director based in Bulawayo. It celebrates 21 years. Sunduza company has recently toured Voices from the Rocks to the National arts Festival in Grahamstown and then the Adventures of Robert Moffat (based on his diaries and meetings with King Mzilikazi) pre covid. This year we launch 'The other Cecil"-about the imperial legacy of the lion and its environmental influences today and appear at the Mitambo Theatre Festival in Harare.
