Vallerie Muthoni aka Brown Suga is a Kenyan-American singer, rapper, dancer, and creative director based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Muthoni names artists like Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Childish Gambino, Rihanna, Frank Ocean, and Anderson Paak as major influences in her artistry today. Being a genre-fluid artist, her sound involves but is not limited to, Afro-fusion, Hip-hop & Trap, RnB & Soul - you can experience this musical fluidity all throughout her discography ‘the Wavey Soul’ EP (2018), ‘Pisces SZN’ EP (2019) & ‘Suga & Spice Live Sessions’ Album (2020).
Vallerie has perfected the craft of engaging and relating with her audience through storytelling, stage presence, dance & charisma. From choreography, entrepreneurship, voice-over work, hosting/MC events, and creative direction…the young rising East African star got a sterling feature on COLORS X Studios for her undeniable confidence and flow on the hit song 'Brown Suga', recently did a jingle + voice-over work a L’Oreal digital AD campaign (Nice and Lovely Kenya) and even styled British-Ghanian award-winning producer Juls for his album listening party in Kenya.
As she evolves as an artist and young rockstar-cum-polymath, Muthoni continues to shine not only in her city receiving frequent radio airplay and recognition through awards like the ‘Music Video of the Year’ at Unkut HipHop Awards 2019 but also repping Kenya on international media platforms BBC 1xtra’s Africa 360 playlist and Triller Africa.
