Bio
In 2017 composer, Franco Prinsloo founded the Vox Chamber Choir. A group of semi-professional and experienced choral singers dedicated to performing the original compositions of Prinsloo. In 2017 the choir released their first album: "Vox Novus: South African Choral Series Vol. 1" with original material by Prinsloo, Pieter Bezuidenhout and Zander Fick. From then on the Choir has released various albums each year all music that Prinsloo composed. The Choir participated in the World Choir Games - 2018: INTERKULTUR in Pretoria, South Africa and received a Golden medal in the Champion category of: Musica Contemporanea.
2019 was a busy and exciting year for the Choir. The choir collaborated with filmmaker, Willem van den Heever, in creating an award-winning short film based on Prinsloo’s composition: "Kom vannag in my drome". The film was awarded with various international films accolades. Furthermore, the Choir underwent a successful international concert tour to Europe for three weeks. At the 7th International Anton Bruckner Choir Competition and Festival in Linz, Austria, Vox Chamber Choir again received a golden medal in the Champion category of: Musica Contemporanea. During this European concert tour, the Choir performed in numerous renowned venues, including premiering Prinsloo's mass, "Missa Brevis 'San Marco'" in the famous Basilica San Marco in Venice, Italy. The Choir also collaborated with the University of Pretoria Youth Choir (UPYC) in 2019 in staging Franco Prinsloo’s multi-lingual choral fantasy, "Naledi - An African Journey" in the Aula Theatre at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. The Choir has done various collaborations with various artists in interdisciplinary works, ever expanding and evolving the choral genre from its traditional form.
In 2020 two new albums were released: “You Are Beautiful” as well as the full soundtrack for “Naledi – An African Journey” on all major digital streaming platforms. The Vox Chamber Choir has recorded Prinsloo’s Afrikaans Easter oratorio: “Kruis van Liefde” and was broadcasted on RSG on Good Friday in 2021 and the video performance was premiered on KykNET earlier this year. It was released also on all major digital streaming platforms. In 2021 the Choir, as activists for protecting our natural heritage held an exciting concert in the basement of King Price Insurance, setting the scene of a post-apocalipic event and performing Prinsloo’s works advocating for change to look after the earth. The Choir collaborated with various visual artists, instrumentalists and staging conceptual art to enhance the message that is needed to be heard by mankind. Currently, the Choir is busy rehearsing Prinsloo newly composed Christmas oratorio: “Lig van Waarheid” (the 2nd instalment of his “Trilogy of Oratoria”) later this year with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra which will be broadcasted nationwide. In 2022 the Vox Chamber Choir and Franco Prinsloo has been nominated for 2 South African Music Awards (SAMAs) for the categories: 1) Best Classical Album of the Year (for “Kruis van Liefde”) and 2) Duo of Group of the Year (Franco Prinsloo & Vox Chamber Choir for “Kruis van Liefde”).
